Midnight blackberry black tea

Dark berries and a proper black tea base.

Blackberries deepen the color and flavor of this single-serving black tea. Its midnight name is a seasonal flourish: expect a natural burgundy-brown cup, not an artificially black drink.

LET’S MAKE SOMETHING LOVELY

Midnight blackberry black tea

An editorial starting recipe, ready for your own taste adjustments. It has not yet been kitchen-tested by Tea Planet.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup / 240 ml water
  • ⅓ cup / 50 g fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 1 black tea bag / about 2 g
  • 1–2 tsp / 4–8 g sugar, to taste
  • 1 tsp / 5 ml lemon juice, optional

Method

  1. Combine the berries and water in a small saucepan. Simmer gently for 5 minutes, mashing the berries with a spoon.
  2. Take the pan off the heat, add the tea bag and steep for 3 minutes.
  3. Remove the bag. Strain into a mug through a fine-mesh strainer to catch the seeds.
  4. Stir in the sugar and optional lemon juice. Taste and serve warm.
