Gingerbread black tea latte

Molasses, gentle ginger and a soft cap of milk.

This single-mug latte borrows its gingerbread character from molasses and a small pinch of baking spices. A strong black tea base keeps the finished cup from tasting like warm flavored milk.

LET’S MAKE SOMETHING LOVELY

Gingerbread black tea latte

An editorial starting recipe, ready for your own taste adjustments. It has not yet been kitchen-tested by Tea Planet.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup / 120 ml water
  • 1 black tea bag, about 2 g
  • ½ cup / 120 ml milk or oat milk
  • 1 tsp / 7 g unsulfured molasses, not blackstrap
  • 1 tsp / 4 g brown sugar, optional
  • ⅛ tsp / 0.25 g ground ginger
  • ⅛ tsp / 0.3 g ground cinnamon

Method

  1. Bring the water to a boil. Pour over the tea bag in a heat-safe mug and steep for 4 minutes, or according to the package.
  2. Meanwhile, whisk the milk, molasses, ginger and cinnamon in a small saucepan. Warm over medium-low heat for 3–4 minutes without boiling.
  3. Remove the tea bag. Stir in the optional brown sugar, tasting carefully before adding all of it.
  4. Whisk the warm milk once more, pour it into the tea and serve. Stir occasionally as the ground spices settle.
